You have used a fix for 7200.11 BSY/LBA 0 on a drive that have firmware prior to F3 arch.
7200.11 and newer drives will identify at terminal as F3 T> and NOT T>
The commands for those drives are diferent.

On a F3 arch drive F3 1>N1 will clear SMART and F3 T>i4,1,22 will erase G-LIST.
But your drive is prior to F3 arch and so the commands that are valid for that drive type are the following :

http://malthus.zapto.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2

Doing I at level T on a drive prior to F3 will "Cert the reserved Cylinder" ...
I think that your firmware is gone now .... Drive can't read Firmware because .... it's gone ... or so i think.

Initial problem with the drive could have been a weak failing head or damage (bad sector) on a specific part of SA.

Do you have tools like PC3K, Salvation or STR ? If so it might still be possible to upload to the drive a copy of the firmware and Self Scan it. Of course you will loose all the data.

All this on a ST1000DL002 ? 8)

Even worse, also this assumption to me is wrong.
Probably it was a relatively simple problem in the beginning, the disk just needed to be cloned safely after stabilizing the Fw and then eventually refurbished. Now I would only trust PC3000...

It's still visible in MHDD and BUSY (like before N1 and i4,i,22)
After about 2 hours of "InitiateMarkPendingReallocateRequest for disc_lba" still visible in MHDD and BUSY.
After reconnecting in terminal it shows the same log, but without "InitiateMarkPendingReallocateRequest for disc_lba" (like in the beginning).

Boot 0x20M
Spin Up[0x000246DF]
Trans.
....
....
(DOS) Read Error -
(DOS) Read Error -
(DOS) Read Error -
(DOS) Read Error -

So from the terminal point of view and MHDD behaviour nothing's changed.

hi
i think this drive should be a GRENADA family -ROM LUXOR (maybe luxor_2_1).
why not to try to stop relocation through CONGEN?
after you can check lists for pending sectors and try to read (in ESLIP mode if needed)

hope this can help
Bye
Luca

Thank you.
I've read somewhere about it, but i can't find proper instruction.
I think it should be something like: T>Fsomething

T>Fxxxx,yy

where xxxx is the flag address, yy is the value you want to change the flag to. It even spells out all the flag values. Use F alone to list flags, F with addr to list that flag address, and with value in hex at yy to modify.

Look at the top of F listing, the first set is what you probably want to modify, RWRecoveryFlags. Names should be pretty self explanatory.

Hello

I have a similar issue on a friends disk

Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB

st1000dl001

Wont show passport etc as wont come ready
Busy signal stays green for 15 seconds or so, then does go not-busy

Serial connection (38400)

power on
after a few seconds get the following

Rst 0x20M
RW: Disc Ctlr Initialization Completed.

(P) SATA Reset

then nothing
no respose to ctrl-Z

But if wait a few minutes, get

ASCII Diag mode

F3 T>

/2 works to get to F3 2>
but not planning to do anything for a while until I can remember any non-destructive commands

No LED error, so not sure what to try first

Thanks for any suggestions

Anyone any suggestions ?

The initial 1-2 minutes wait after power on before it responds to ^Z is strange
Does it suggest anything ?

F3 2>x
shows the zones ok

User Partition

LBAs 00000000-1D326C40
PBAs 00000000-1D5AB7E4
HdSkew 006E, CylSkew 0032
ZonesPerHd 11

Head 0, PhyCyls 000000-0441AA, LogCyls 000000-0435F2

shows info for zones 0-10 for heads 0-5

System Partition

LBAs 00000000-002C7173
PBAs 00000000-003527FF
HdSkew 006E, CylSkew 0018
ZonesPerHd 02

Head 0, PhyCyls 028243-028482, LogCyls 000000-000210

zones 0-1 for heads 0-5

Now to see / remember how to read a user LBA into the rd memory buffer (and locate the buffer)

but still don't really understand where to find user LBA's from the internal physical cylinders heads etc

No, not tries clearing SMART yet

with 1>N1 (if appropriate to an F3)

as don't want to risk anything yet

Is there a way to read SMART from the terminal ?

Also, regarding the delay between power on and ^Z being accepted -- I have a working 7200.12 that does that so might be normal
