Hi guys, I had been following the ATA password thread and have managed to retrieve passwords that I already know ( through MHDD and hex workshop) but what is the process to retrieve an unknown one that prompts in the POST?

Would MHDD work if I were to boot from another boot device?

Let me know your setup pls as building a rig specifically for the job

Will have a couple of external SATA and IDE ports along with SATA and molex power
Will also have TTL Port access

Kind regards, Richard

i'll have a look into pc3k and atola. thanks

I have received a quote for HD doctor but the pricing for that is a little too extreme for me in my current circumstances. I am just now trying to branch out into HDD recovery. I will be doing any methods that can be accomplished without the clean room and if a clean room is needed for the job then one is available (with experienced specialists) through an acquaintance :)

I appreciate that I am a noob to the forum and don't expect to be spoon fed but being pointed in the right direction is a great help :)

There are plenty of free tools.

Try ZU:

I have tried ZU with a couple, but continuous counter so I resorted to the HEX approach

I was trying with passwords I already know as a start, to ensure the theory works

Maybe it would be a good start if you at least told us what model/make you are talking about, and what you mean by "the HEX approach".
