Hello
I installed some new drives in my coolermaster pc case and now my old wd caviar sata had to get out the case.
So i would use the coolermaster x-dock bay to inserth the hdd and copy all the content.

So when i inserted the wd caviar inside the bay , the pc shutted down and after that the hdd stopped to spin.
I recconected it to a internal sata port but no luck. It sees to be fried.

After reading the forum it seems that the dock is faulty and a lot of hdd's are fried...So thank you coolermaster...

I ordered a spare pcb so to replace the fried one but it might need bios exhacge which need special tools.

The fried pcb has a burn in a small chip on the upper left corner...What is that?

do you think that with exchaning the bios chip the hdd will work again?

Does anyone have to propose a technician so to sent the pcb for repair?
I sent to all of europe :D

thanks for the help

Thodoris

Can you measure the resistances of these components?

If D3 and R67 are damaged, then your preamp would be suspect.

Θα ήθελα να συστήσω Northwind Data Recovery στη Θεσσαλονίκη.

thanks for the replies

I used the donor pcb and the drive spinned up but after 2-3 seconds a tic tic sound came.
So i think that the preamp isnt shortcirquited.

Maybe a firmware trasnfer to the donor pcb make the trick?

Northwind price is about 400$ so want first to try my luck if there is a cheaper way :)

If you wish to try this, then contact hdd-parts.com. They offer a PCB repair service.

You could also try to regenerate the ROM from the SA modules using WD Marvel Repair Tool:
http://wdmarvel.com/ru/

A 1 month licence costs $9.
