My macbook's can't be restarted after HDD failed. Mac replaced the hdd and give me back the original HDD. It's a Fujitsu made 160Gb model MHY2160BHD.
It can't be found normally using a SATA to USB PCB (no suprise). using third party software, I can see the drive. But Testdisk can't find the partition files and Data Recue II scanned 3Gb (it took 2 days) says no file can be found?
Any solution? Thank you.

You should make an image of a failing drive (if you can) and recover from it, NOT the original patient. Working a defective drive by trying to get files from it can cause its destruction, preventing future data recovery.

I wouldnt be surprised if there was some level or surface damage here. If initial recovery attempt is unsuccessful, or an image cannot be taken, it would be wise to consult a professional, or trash the disk.

Hard drive failures can be anything from components attached within to software malfunctions & corruptions. So if your Mac shuts down without you requesting that do so, begins reporting a whole host of disk errors then shut the computer down and contact Apple Hard Drive Recovery agents. They will diagnose the nature of the problem from the information you give them & can help you move forward with the recovery of your data.
