I made a head change in a western digital . the problem is that in the client's disk we don't get into the data, altough in donor disk with thtat head we can see the files. the donor correspond to matching guide needed for western digital. I checked on pc 3000 and the heads are ok.

Exists some problem on compatibility of heads in western digital? where can I study about that?

What were the symptoms BEFORE you changed the heads? Could you "get into the data" with the old heads, but not the new? I'm trying to determine if you have a heads issue, or something else.

o que tenho é um disco western dum cliente o diagnóstico determinou cabeças partidas, fiz então a compra de um donor, e troquei as cabeças contudo não consigo chegar aos dados do mesmo, porém trocando as caças ( em bom estado) para o donor estas funcionam conseguindo ver a NTFS do donor enquanto que estas cabeças em bom estado não funcionam no cliente.

A minha questão é se existe algum tipo de incompatibilidade nos western que não existe noutros casos uma vez que já efectuei mudanças noutros discos e correu lindamente.

WD heads are fairly compatible.

What model are you working with? You may have a firmware issue unrelated to heads.

There are "rules" for WD head swaps, but they depend upon model number, to some extent.

No, I am not going to tell you everything I know about WD heads compatibility. There are a lot of different "rules", although most have a lot in common. But if you can provide the model number of the drive in question, perhaps I can help you with this recovery.

Damaged heads can harm the SA modules necessary for the drive to start up. Some WD models seem more prone to this type of damage than others.

So, the next step is up to you . . .

the Model I have is : WD10EALX - 009BA0

That's a Tahoe2D. Should have 4 heads, so heads map isn't an issue. Microjogs should be within 200 between patient and donor. Check sliders of patient and donor to confirm that they match.

I think you have an SA / firmware issue.

The WD10EALS-00Z8A0 drive for donor could be good too.

If after a head swap the drive is not identifiable, then there could be a damaged SA, or corrupted firmware modules....
Try read firmware modules with PCB hot swap
