I connected the power the wrong way or something and the result after a lot of digging is a fried +5 tvs diode. I removed the diode to see if this was a miracle cure, but nothing. I was gonna move on to the +12v diode but thought better.

onepcbsolution....seem to be able to software fix firmware swap. $45.
hdd-parts........do a hardware soldiering swap. $45
Both above are partner firms.

I have encountered "fzabkar" and his knowledge. Which is why i removed the diode, should i have done something else like wire up to power?

What i would like to find out is if having matched;
1. Model# ST2000DM001
2. Board# 100717520
3. F/W# CC27
Would i then using a CP2102 usb to hd connector via puTTy be able to tranfer firmware bios?

Any input would be appreciated.

A photo of pcb would help to advise

No,

you need a programmer or swap ROM.

Measure the zero-ohm resistors. The 5V pair will be open circuit.

Also measure the voltages at the SATA power pins. If you have been swapping cables between different PSUs "or something", then there is a real possibility that there will be 12V on the 5V pins.

Photo is as fzabkar posted without 5v TVS.
I will have to get hold of `voltmeter` and `magnifying glass` for test.

colanco "you need a programmer or swap ROM."
programmer??? Is not a `USB 2.0 to TTL UART 5PIN CP2102 Module Serial Connector` via puTTy a programmer
swap ROM means this bios to a donor board. Yes?

fzabkar "there will be 12V on the 5V pins" you mean 12v stored in there via capacitors.

Sorry for lack of comprehension.
Electronics not a strong point.

open circuit -
An electric circuit through which current cannot flow because the path is broken or interrupted by an opening.
Got that one.
