Donor heads are selected very badly.
Sometimes you need to pick up dozens of donors compatible head.
Most often used to read each head separately with hot swap.

To read by each head, you need at least PC3000 + DE.
You have?

You torment to do so.
Heads read turns every surface.
Approximately 50-100 megabytes on one and then on the other

apart from what's already been said, i bet PCB is bad and servo + data is killed on the bottom side.
If u put the donor MHA back to donor, and it does not click, i am pretty close to the truth.

Tomset: with right technique u would not need several donors.

What are you talking about?
Tomset wants to say that case where you think servo is gone from one side platter - is not really gone, but you need very picky head donor.

He wasn't talking about the case when the servo is gone, just a plain head swap on older wd drives.
When the servo and data is damaged by the bad pcb, it is not very easy and usually only a fraction of the data is recoverable.

That's what I thought while I was young. :)
But the reason for - not compatible head.
No case was not, except gashes.
Always after a long selection of the donor, it was possible to read data.
There were cases when the donor had to pick up within two years.

I know what you are talking about, but believe me, it does not have to be like that.
It is because most DR people has no idea what the cause of the so called incompatibility is.
This was why i liked WD, coz very few liked them because of this behaviour.

pepe,
It would be interesting to hear your theory.
As far as I know, all the stupid pick a compatible donor.
Nor any adjustment of adaptive parameters not help.

DCM matters on Unicorn.

So does the zenith of the HSA spindle, and by extension, the top lid position.

If you can't get the data with a maximum of 3 donors, then the drive is toast; you are doing something wrong; or you do not know what to do.

jono-ats,
DCM has very little relation to the compatibility of the donor.
This code parts manufacturers.
But no parameters, configuration card, switch, or adaptive parameters heads.

In general, the top of all HDD, very few labels to properly to compatibility.
Besides family, the rest only increase the likelihood, but does not guarantee it.
