Hi All,

I was hoping someone can offer some ideas to help me come to a resolution.

I have 2 WD101EFAX drive, and the read / write heads have gotten damage.
Does anyone know if I can find the Head Stack Assembly by it self, or where can I find a Donor Drive for a resonable price.

Lastly, where could i find the schematics for this same drive?
The PCB number is 004-0B43167 and the dirve is a WD101EFAX WD RED 10TB PLUS, any info is greatly appreciated, thank you in advanced JR.

I can help you repair the PCB if you upload detailed photos. This PCB has two stages of protection -- smt fuse, TVS diode and e-fuse. There is one set for the 5V rail and a second set for the 12V rail.

Hi Fzabkar,

Thank you for the information, My main concern with the PCB is that I swapped the board on my unit with a donor I purchased on ebay.
I want to be sure I swapped the bios / memory chip correctly.

This board seems to have two chips, from the littleb bit of infomation I found online, it recommended to swap both chips. After swapping the PCB, I am now getting the machine to recognize the drive, however when i try to initiate the drive I get an error:
" The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."

I reached out to WD support and their best guest is that the heads are not working properly, since the drive does not have any warranty left I decided to try and repair it my
self. And this is how I ened up on this site.

How did you damage the drives?

BTW, I've seen many DR pros try to swap heads on these models without success. I suspect that the "adaptives" need to be transplanted.

I would prefer that problem solving questions remain in the public domain. I don't know who you are or where you are. In any case, I'm not a DR pro, just an interested observer.
