Hi everyone!
I have this Toshiba drive
It came in with not original ROM (The drive does spin and gets to Ready status. However the Serial Number and FW are all wrong from the label)

So i got the patient to gimme the original ROM
However when soldering the original ROM on. The drive doesn't even boot up
So i think the ROM must be defective or something

I need some help to check this ROM if there is any problems with it and if can extract the information from it to check if it is the original
Many Thanks!

How can anyone help you if we can't see your ROM dumps?

The checksums of the CPs seem to be OK. I'm wondering whether there is a problem in the code section. Can you upload the donor ROM?

The donor and patient ROMs are identical, except that the donor has an additional 0x110 bytes at the end. :-?

I think that programming the SPI flash memory using the dump with those extra 0x110 bytes would result in the first 0x110 bytes of the chip being overwritten when the final address rolls over to address 0. But that would affect the donor, not the patient. :-?

In any case, you don't appear to have the original ROM, so your case is unsolvable.

Are the last extra 0x110 bytes in donor ROM all 00?
Can you help me fix the patient ROM by adding 0x110 bytes to the end. So they look exactly the same

Many thanks!

Your question makes no sense. If you want both ROM dumps to be exactly the same (why?), just rename the file or copy it.

I have no idea what the last 0x110 bytes mean. You need to examine the dump with a hex editor. I use HxD:

Edit:

These are the extra bytes:

Code:

You mean they are exactly similar byte by byte just up until last 0x110 bytes?
