Hi all,

A little help?

Maxtor 40Gb 6E040L0..........

Seen in BIOS, but f/w version wrong (ending in Z)...

So, enter Safe Mode.... Load LDR... check modules, all OK.

Run module recovery...

Now drive ID's OK, but all LBA is bad (every single one)

Run translator regen, (97k+ defects), still same.

Any suggestions?

PC3000 manual says to delete G-List, did that (saved copy 1st), still same.

Help!!

A bit more light to shed on this case.

Drive will read data now, but very, very slowly. And with quite a few bad sectors near the beginning.

Took one hour to image 4,000 sectors, so the 40Gb will take 2,000 hours :-(

SA reading is normal speed.

Any suggestions?

Sean

It seems like media is degrading...
Try smart hot swap to read the data.

Starling.. Thx for reply my friend...

Forgive me but what is a "smart" hot swap?

You mean to copy the defect tables and translator modules to donor, start then hot swap?

write smart & translator modules from HDD you need to recover data from to the HDD you will start the hot swap process with. Start good drive, let it initialize put to sleep with command, then move PCB still connected to recovery drive & try to copy data
