Hi,

This disk will not now spin up and is not recognised by the bios

I have seen earlier posts about this drive, but looking at the PCB, the important U12 chip is not there, just the label.
Does anyone have a PCB and if so, how do get the U12 data across when there is no U12 chip?

Thanks,

Ouch!

Yours has ROM info embedded into the Marvell chip :-(

Probably easier to change the Smooth Chip, and hope that's all that's blown.

Either way, you need pro help.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. If I were to find an identical board, with the ROM embedded in the CPU, I could not just substitute that board? You mean that the ROM is unique to my drive and somehow I must get it onto the new logic board?

Due to the damahe to the smooth chip I wouldn't be surprised if theres more internal damage. Pre amp might be dead to.

Is there a way I can check? I have a multimeter. Sounds like I'm on a loser anyway because of that embedded ROM.

Embedded rom = no user solution even with good 'skill'... I have a solution, but most probably your data is not worth a standard dr price for this drive/problem.
