I am not "fully" familiar with samsungs....Dont get to many of them.

I cant read the number on the chip, but i think the 8 legged chip in the top left above the RAM may need to be transferred.

No, the U3 is the good choice. ;)

Additionally, better to measure the preamp before trying another pcb!

Completely wrong : the code is in part in the SID chip , the main code is in the AT49F1024. There is no SPI external rom to be transferred.
Problem #1 : do the PCB belong to the same drive and code revision (SP4004 / xxxxx-yy) ? This PCB, with different main code, works on many drives.
Check the revision of the main code. If have no tools, the ROM should be read/reprogrammed externally (desolder it).
When I see the screws have been removed, I assume that some "Wile E. Coyote" engineering has done by end user or other so-called "expert".
Problem #2 : has the MC been poked or any FW 'fix' attempted ?
Note that main code AND overlays (on platter) must match for the drive to get ready AND eventually accept command !
Just in case , you know I can do EVERYTHING with Samsungs... ring me on IM.

I vote for checking the preamp.
the original PCB was bad, preamp could have been exposed to high voltages as well.

No Pepe. The log would be VERY DIFFERENT !! There are many little problems that lead to 'dead' Samsungs with no PS related issues. I have addressed the problem via MSN.

Ok, I haven't have this model for recovery for ages now, so I must admit I don't remember the exact logs, but such log on a PALO drive (for example) makes me suspect preamp problem.
checking preamp doesn't hurt anyway on such cases, just to be sure.

If it was the preamp or completely not working headstack or head physically disconnected, at least you had a Gray Err. (uh... haven't seen the complete log BTW !) and it should click badly then turn off almost immediately.

Thanks ,

I have scanner the disk with the pcb.

Since i dont have the same disk, i found a similiar looking PCB to try.

in this case it looks like the code revision is not the same.

The PCBs are somwhat different, but the problem IS definitely the main code.
