Hello,

I have a WD5000AAJS external 500 GB drive that it needs a new board. It spins for short time when I hook it up to my PC but it turns off afterwads, I took it to some data recovery places and they found that I need to replace the PCB which is burned. Please help to find a PCB similar to what I have.

Spec:
Western Digital: 500 GB WD Caviar SE
Model WD5000AAJS-32vfa0
Date: 10 Jan 2008
PCB Model Number:
2061-701477-100 04P

Thanks

YOUSIF

Hello,

PCB swap on this model not helps, because have configuration chip or embeded ROM in MCU.
If you need the data, i suggest to find a pro close to you....

Some info, about why not try to replace the pcb:

Agree with Janos, that kind of "steps information" could not be provide to a newbie, who doesnt understand on first what its a ATA protocol, or how does works a hard disk internally :?

Spooky... my WD EBook has recently failed, I suspect I used the wrong power supply (20 volts) normally used for my laptop. ups... should be 12volts
So I open the case to have a look and see.
Spec:
Western Digital: 500 GB WD Caviar SE
Model WD5000AAJS-32vfa0
PCB Model Number:
2061-701477-100 04P
Other Makings XT 4U05 6CS3 60003040 8043
and 2060 701477-002.

Does any one have an opinion on weather the drive could be damage, or can recommend a plan to fix or retrieve the data from it.

Looks like YOUSIF I have similar drives...

If you are from Preston, Lancashire, then contact PCIMAGE - he is a pro
and will help for fair prices.

Any different advice, to manipulate with your drive could harm your data.
