Are the drives with built on USB connections causing problems for use of tools such as DDI, PC3000, etc? Or have you found a way around (not asking for the method used, just if you have) the issue?

If you're talking about WD 2.5" it can be "converted" to sata

The only theory I had was using a compatable board from a drive that didn't have the build on connection,, also there are quite a few pins on the drives with built on USB, thought some of them may be sata data connection, but haven't had enough time to check it out, no real need, currently do not have DDI or PC3000.

The PCB can be modified to use as a SATA

I remember when we got our first one in. Think it was a WDXXXXBEMU. Thought "Right now just to remove the USB adapter and.....oh.....well thats bloody awkward!"

Yeah between that and the 256-bit hardware AES enclosures WD has made some pretty lame design decisions lately.

Exactly, have not run into a Samsung one yet, but have run into a Samsung with a TINY PCB, PM if needed, does Samsung have the same bypass?
