i have seagate 1000 gb FreePlay ST1000LM010 i attach the log file on linux .. there is a way to understand if is logic board or mechanical dead? thank you!

It's a mechanical problem: bad blocks / media damage / weak heads. If drive spins and you get a error log your pcb is fine.

Best idea is to hook to terminal and see the data output

It's not a PCB issue, as already mentioned.

If the data is important then seek pro assistance, but if it's not worth spending any money and assume the DIY risks then you can try cloning with a non-windows sector cloner such as dd_rescue or media tools pro. Then scan the resultant clone with recovery software such as rstudio or getdataback.

Well,
i do not have any experience with ddrescue yet but pmt you can use ctrl-s and set retry counts to 0 :mrgreen:

Sorry my bad.

Because on the other post you were talking about TTL terminal i assumed that you were saying for the OP to use something like CTRL+S on the terminal ...

I didn't realize you were talking about Prosoft Media tools.

In any case if this was my drive i would check with terminal first, then disable relocation and then attempt to clone with hardware.
